Reminder - Scam Emails

We want to make all 3Ls members aware of a recent increase in fraudulent emails across the west of Scotland. Scammers have recently been sending emails claiming the sender has a very sore throat, tonsillitis, or laryngitis, and therefore can’t speak on the phone. This is a known tactic used to lower your guard and prevent you from verifying the message in a quick call.
Recently, this pattern has been prevalent across Glasgow and Lanarkshire, where residents have received emails from someone pretending to be a friend or contact, followed by a request for money or gift cards. The email often urges you to enter into a dialogue, share personal information, or make a payment for Amazon vouchers.
🚫 What to do if you receive one
Do not reply to the email.
Do not click any links or open attachments.
Verify the person another way — call them, text them, or speak in person.
Forward the email to: report@phishing.gov.uk (National Cyber Security Centre)
If you’ve lost money or believe a crime has occurred, contact Police Scotland on 101.
We want to reassure members that we never share your information with unauthorised third parties, and we continually review our processes to maintain strong security standards. All 3Ls membership data is stored in a securely encrypted database.
