      Architecture and Design

The Architecture & Design club dates from 1999 when the University ran a series of seminars, during Glasgow’s year as City of Architecture and Design. Now in our 24th year, we are pleased to bring you a diverse and interesting programme of talks for this coming year.

Programme information will also be posted on the notice board in the 2nd floor Common Room, Graham Hills Building.

 

All talks will take place on the second Thursday of the month in the 7th Floor Conference Room (Number GH742) and commence at 2.00pm apart from the AGM which will be at 1.30pm. The membership fee for 2023 - 2024 is £12.00

October 12th V&A CURRENT EXHIBITION – ‘TARTAN’

Kirsty Hassard, Co-curator at the V&A Dundee, will present a behind the scenes view, sharing the stories, discoveries and research which shaped the curation of the above.
 

November 9th LEGACY OF STAINED GLASS

Emma Lindsay will give a talk on "Stained Glass in Glasgow: A Living Legacy" highlighting the fascinating variety of stained glass in Glasgow, much of which is present in Tenement flats and still plays a vital role in people's day-to-day lives.

December 7th (please note this is the first Thursday of the month) Our CHRISTMAS GET-TOGETHER will be at a new venue this year: -The Pipers’ Tryst Restaurant, 30 McPhater Street, Cowcaddens. Meet there at 2.00pm to mingle and chat over a glass of wine, mince pies, tea/coffee, and take part and enjoy our quiz. A charge is £15 (non-refundable). Book your place on the membership form.

2024 January 11th BUCHANAN GALLERIES REDEVELOPMENT

Stuart Orr from the developers, LandsecU+1 on the proposed exciting and perhaps controversial redevelopment of the Buchanan Galleries.

February 8th TWENTY YEARS OF OUR ARCHTECTURE & DESIGN CLUB

Clio Barr, our Past-President, will give an illustrated ‘look back’ at our clubs’ highlights over the last 20 years.

March 14th “FRAGMENTS OF GLASGOW”

Rosalie Menon FRIAS from Glasgow School of Art will give a talk on her recently published book “Fragments of Glasgow” celebrating some of the impressive conservation, creativity, and investment undertaken to repurpose architectural treasures.

April 11th AGM followed by Alisdair Clements, Director of Inch Architecture on a “Glasgow Young Gun comes of Age” to join the emergent architectural scene in Glasgow. Wine and nibbles to follow.

May 9th SUMMER OUTING
